Message from Ingrid Srinath, CIVICUS Secretary General,

Dear Friends
The next CIVICUS World Assembly will be held in Montréal, Canada, from 20-23 August, 2010. This will immediately be preceded by the CIVICUS Youth Assembly which will take place from 19 - 20 August 2010
The overall theme of the CIVICUS World Assembly is 'Acting Together for a Just World'.
Every year this is explored through a focus theme. In 2010 the focus theme will be 'Seeking Out Solutions'. This theme will address the issues of Economy, Development and Climate.
The past 8 CIVICUS World Assemblies have shown the creativity and dynamism that civil society can bring to address issues of justice and equity, including issues of poverty, HIV/AIDS, gender equality and youth empowerment, amongst others. These CIVICUS World Assemblies have served as venues through which civil society organisations (CSOs) can articulate and exchange information about important victories they have achieved and critical issues they face, together with the societies in which they work.
The upcoming CIVICUS World Assembly promises to fulfil the same role. As a dynamic venue for CSOs to create and strengthen connections with each other, the CIVICUS World Assembly allows for dialogue that can lead to innovative collaboration across national borders. Similarly, the CIVICUS World Assembly provides a platform for CSOs to interact and engage across sectors like government, business, donors and media and reflect on how best to 'act together for a just world'.
The 2010 CIVICUS World Assembly promises to build upon the success of the previous CIVICUS World Assemblies and continue to strengthen civil society around the world. The CIVICUS Board and staff look forward to greeting you in Montréal! Be there to recharge your batteries, to learn new things, to make new connections and to explore joint projects across borders.
We look forward to seeing you there.
Sincerely,
Ingrid Srinath
Secretary General
